Finishes

A finish adds value to your printed material in every sense. Visual and tactile changes in the paper’s surface are interesting, make you stand out from the competition and stimulate the need to look at the products more closely and to handle them – for a significant increase in impact and advertising effectiveness. In addition, paper surfaces are resistant to dirt, water or chemicals, and become more stable and tear-resistant.

General requirements

The inks used must be completely dry and low in solvents and alkalis in accordance with DIN 16524. (DIN 16524, Part 1/Section 2.3.1, solvent a+b and DIN 16524, Part 2).

Surface coatings and reflective coatings may not use oil-based varnishes, primer coatings or protective varnishes. None of these coatings is suitable as a base for the application of adhesion-sensitive laminate coatings for ring binders.

Printing powder should be used sparingly. Excess powder is highly visible after lamination. With metallic inks less pigmented grades must be used and varnish added as a binder, otherwise there is a risk of adhesion problems with the lamination.
The running direction of individual repeats must be narrow web .

Lamination with OPP (polypropylene film)

Lamination is especially recommended for products that will be in use for a longer time and more often, such as book covers, brochures, reference files, cardboard packaging. Partial lamination (gaps for adhesive edges) is only possible to a very limited extent.

OPP glossy film
Extreme protection, chemical and water-resistant, high gloss, tear-resistant, structural embossing possible

OPP matt film
Protection, not scratch resistant, chemical and water-resistant, velvety matt finish, tear-resistant, structural embossing possible

Scratch-resistant matt film
Protection, scratch-resistant, chemical and water-resistant, velvety matt finish, tear-resistant, structural embossing possible

Forchheim embossed laminate
Extreme protection, abrasion-resistant, chemical and water-resistant, tear-resistant – Standard fine finish, no imprint embossing visible on back, thus usable on both sides

Structural embossing in coarse and fine finish
Structural embossing is especially recommended for printed products that will be in use more often, such as book covers and reference files. The structured rough surface is much less sensitive to scratches and other signs of wear. The sheets, previously laminated on a roll, are structurally embossed using a calender.

Spot UV gloss varnish
Especially eye-catching in conjunction with matt laminate film

Embossed foil printing
Hot foil embossing provides the most elegant and fascinating accents. Embossing foils are available in a wide variety of colours, from various shades of gold and silver to holographic foils and custom-made colour schemes. This method works with embossing tools, embossing foils and above all heat and pressure. It is odourless, dry and solvent-free.

Hot embossing foil flat
The classic hot foil embossing – usually in gold or silver. Depending on the paper quality, the embossing is barely visible on the reverse side.
